Short Description

ESPRIT is a complexity manager of the energy system, acting on a multilevel hierarchical basis. It consists of a family of interconnected models. On the coordination level - national economy system - the system development dynamics are determined (using MEDEE RS, a modified version of MEDEE 2). Subordinate level 1 - energy supply system - determines the optimal energy flow (using MESSAGE II). On subordinate level 2 - electric power supply system - the market share of each electricity generation utility is calculated (using the operation simulating model ELBIVIM and the environmental information system EIS). Financial process modelling consists of the models GEMM and INTERACT. GEMM integrates the production and financial subprocesses of each business unit, INTERACT provides data aggregation based on the output allocation of cost, environmental and health parameters. Outputs of ESPRIT are a business overview on the company level, and aggregated parameters for the energy system and its subsystems together with environmental and health parameters. Input data requirements comprise technology characteristics, economic data, toxicity data and environmental data. ESPRIT can only be applied at the local and national level.
