As
the year drew to a close, the World Bank staged a major
conference on disability – in celebration of the United
Nations 2004 International Day of Disabled Persons, on December
3. With the theme, Disability and Inclusive Development:
Sharing, Learning and Building Alliances, the conference
examined the work in the disability and development community
over the past two years. The aim was to build upon its past
work in order to further reduce global poverty for disabled
people, who account for 10% of the global population and
are among the poorest of the poor. |
