Annual Meetings

Bank president Wolfensohn opened the Bank’s Annual Meetings with a clear message: “If we want stability on our planet, then we must fight to end poverty.” Mr. Wolfensohn spoke of terror reaching the Bank’s door – with a computer found in Pakistan showing the Bank and IMF have been targeted by the terrorist group, Al Qaeda. But while he said it was right to fight terror, people should not lose sight of the longer term and equally urgent causes of insecurity in the world – poverty, frustration and lack of hope.
