Results from the World Bank Treasury

  • Purpose: Increase access for uninsured mothers and children to basic health care services.
  • IBRD Financing: $300 Million
  • Expected Results: 1.84 million beneficiaries with expanded health coverage, representing 90 percent of the targeted population, including participation of 75% of indigenous population. Availability of regular and verified program information, audits and project evaluation.

Development Challenge

Argentina’s health sector is highly fragmented and is yet to adequately serve the poorest segments of the population (the unemployed, those in the informal sector, and indigenous communities). In addition, Argentina’s federal structure assigns most health responsibilities (operational and policy) to the provinces.

Project Description

The Plan Nacerprogram funds basic health services and outreach targeting uninsured mothers and their children. Through two IBRD loans Plan Nacercovers all 24 provinces in Argentina.
