BUJUMBURA, February 15, 2016 — The new World Bank Country Manager for Burundi, Nestor Coffi, officially took office on Monday, February 15. Before coming to Burundi, Coffi was the Bank’s Country Manager in Niger then Lead Operations Officer in the Governance Practice in Washington.
In this new position, Coffi’s priorities will be (i) to continue strengthening relations between the World Bank and the country’s authorities; (ii) to oversee the preparation and implementation of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF), in accordance with the development priorities identified by the country; and (iii) to supervise the participation of the Burundi office teams in the implementation of the World Bank’s development strategy for the Africa region.
Nestor Coffi, a French and Ivorian national, has a long history of development experience throughout the world, including 13 years at the World Bank Group. From October 2010 to June 2015, he was the World Bank Country Manager in Niger. Under his leadership, a new strategic partnership framework was put in place, and the World Bank’s portfolio was reconstituted and quadrupled after a period of suspension. In his previous positions, Coffi led a team of financial management specialists to provide technical assistance to development programs financed by the World Bank Group across Africa. He is a French Chartered Accountant, holds a Specialization in Public Financial Management from Art et Metiers (Paris) and Master Degrees from the Arts et Metiers (Paris) and Institut National Polytechnique Houphouet-Boigny, Yamoussoukro in Cote d’Ivoire.
