Lessons from Education: A joint OECD-HARVARD-HundrED-World Bank webinar

  • The Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE) of Egypt moved at record speed in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to accelerate its ICT services and provide national access to its online knowledge bank. It leveraged the existing technological infrastructure and took measures to expedite the use of education technology solutions to reach all the students at home. Digital content by grade and subject was offered through the national online knowledge bank to all students from K-12; a new digital platform for virtual classrooms created; and educational TV channels by grade and subject shown on national television. School-based Student Assessments and External Examinations were adapted as follows: (i) for grades 3-9, the MOETE established that students would work on multidisciplinary research projects and those were to count as the key assessment instrument and criteria for grade promotion; (ii) for grades 10-11, students undertook the computer-based tests from home using the tablets made available under the ongoing education reforms EDU 2.0; and (iii) for grade 12, schools were temporary re-opened under strict hygiene measures for students to take the end-of-year high stakes exams.

Join the national and international education policy makers and researchers as they discuss how the different initiatives on modernizing education, including ICT in Egypt were accelerated during the COVID-19 crisis and what lessons can be learned from them.

This is the third event in the joint Lessons For Education webinar series organized in collaboration by the Harvard Global Education Initiative, HudrED, the OECD Directorate for Education and Skills, and the World Bank Group Education Global Practice.
