Are you a young Belarusian between the ages of 17 and 24 who cares about your country's future prospects? Here is a chance for you to share your thoughts and views!

The World Bank Belarus Country Office is holding an essay writing competition titled, “Belarus at a Crossroads: The Direction I’d like to See My Country Take”, which aims to engage Belarusian youth in a dialogue on the country’s current and future development.

In 500 words or less, tell us what, in your opinion, are the biggest challenges that Belarus faces today? How can the country overcome these challenges? What changes are most needed? How can the country thrive? And where do you see Belarus 20 years from now?

Write down your ideas and enter our essay competition. We look forward to hearing from you!

Deadline: June 14, 2019.

    • You must be a citizen of Belarus or currently residing in Belarus;
    • You must be aged between 17 and 24 years;
    • You may only submit one entry;
    • Active staff of the World Bank Group, including Consultants, Interns, Contractors and their employees, are not eligible to participate in the Contest.
  • How to enter:

    • Topic of the Essay is “Belarus at a crossroads: The direction I’d like to see my country take”
    • The essay must be no more than 500 words.
    • The essay can be written in English, Russian or Belarussian languages.
    • Competition participants should submit their essays in electronic format (as a WORD document) and send as an attachment via email to: binfo@worldbank.org
    • The participant’s name, age, and contact information (email address and mobile number) should be mentioned in the submission.
    • The email subject line should read “Belarus at a crossroads” Essay Competition
    • The last date for accepting submissions is June 14, 2019 (23:59 Minsk Time).
  • Selection

    • The judging panel will comprise of 5 members, including external experts and World Bank staff. Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria:
    • Clarity, scope and relevance of the topic;
    • Originality
    • Innovation and creativity
    • Impact
    • Overall quality of the essay
