18th Annual International Conference on Policy Challenges for the Financial Sector

    The 18th Annual International Conference on Policy Challenges for the Financial Sector, co-hosted by the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System is taking place from June 6-8, 2018, in Washington, D.C.

    The central theme of this year’s conference was “Competing Priorities in an Evolving Industry.” The participants  updated their knowledge on issues related to the status of regulatory reforms ten years after the financial crisis, the adequacy of crisis management frameworks to respond to bank failures, evolutions in regulatory frameworks required by the development of Fintech, opportunities and risks related to new Regtech and Suptech approaches, regulatory options to mitigate the Sovereign-bank nexus, as well as the implementation of the principle of proportionality in regulation.

    Around ninety Central Bank Governors, Deputy Governors, Heads of Supervision and other senior financial sector officials from around the world gathered at this event. The heads of the organizing institutions, Randal K. Quarles, Vice Chairman for Supervision, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, David Lipton, First Deputy Managing Director, International Monetary Fund, and Joaquim Levy, Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of The World Bank Group, as well as many distinguished guest speakers, spoke during the conference.
