World Bank Public Seminar "Toward a Sustainable Energy Future for All"
October 1, 2013Tokyo

The World Bank Tokyo Office will organize a public seminar that will highlight the new report entitled as “Toward a Sustainable Energy Future for All: Directions for the World Bank Group’s Energy Sector”.

World Bank Group engagement in the energy sector is designed to help client countries secure the affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy supply needed to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity.

The approach mirrors the objectives of the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative which calls on governments, businesses and civil society to achieve three goals by 2030:

  • universal access to electricity and clean cooking fuels
  • double the share of the world’s energy supplied by renewable sources from 15% to 30%
  • double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency

To help achieve these goals, the World Bank Group is scaling up its already extensive program of support for sustainable energy for poverty reduction. The World Bank Group is already strongly engaged in many of the high impact areas identified in the Sustainable Energy for All Action Agenda, including electrification, grid infrastructure and supply efficiency, distributed electricity solutions, large scale renewable power, cleaner transportation, gas flaring reduction, buildings and appliance standards, modern cooking fuels, and appliances.

Taking the opportunity of the visit of the visit by Charles Feinstein, Sector Manager, Water and Energy (EASWE), Sustainable Development Department, East Asia and pacific Region at the World Bank, the World Bank Tokyo Office will organize a public seminar that will highlight the new report entitled as “Toward a Sustainable Energy Future for All: Directions for the World Bank Group’s Energy Sector”.  He will discuss the World Bank’s commitment to providing long-term solutions tailored to specific circumstances of each client country in the areas of renewable energy, natural gas, transmission and distribution, regional trade and market integration, financial performance, and sector planning.
