The objective of the Urban Upgrading
Project for Vietnam is to alleviate poverty in urban areas
by improving the environmental living conditions of the
urban poor through... Show More + the use of participatory planning methods
and the promotion of more inclusive and pro-poor urban
planning processes. Some of the negative impacts and their
mitigation measures are: 1) all displaced persons (DPs) will
be compensated and or rehabilitated disregarding land tenure
status; 2) resettlement and land acquisition will be
minimized as much as possible, by exploring all feasible
alternatives; 3) the DPs will be provided full assistance
for transportation and will be given a relocation allowance
in addition to the compensation at replacement costs of
their houses, lands and other properties; 4) resettlement
plans will be implemented in consultation with the DPs. In
the resettlement area, community infrastructure and services
will be built and improved, so that the DPs will have access
to these services. Financial and institutional services will
be arranged for credit and other activities associated with
resettlement; and 5) consulting with potential
project-affected people on feasible measures for
