Substantial opportunities... Show More + exist for import substitution provided existing deficiencies at the plant level are overcome, industrial sector planning is strengthened, and industrial policies are reviewed. This report has suggested certain specific measures designed to assist realization of this potential and has identified areas of broad industrial policy which presently do not provide signals appropriate to the efficient development of these industries. The Bank is prepared to assist in the formulation of a project that would include provision of technical assistance at the plant level and supporting extension services; a training program for upgrading skill levels; and the provision of funds for modernization of production and for breaking bottlenecks; the project would benefit a cross section of firms in the engineering industries. Show Less -
