In February 2013, the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) launched its first Call for Proposals on Social Accountability for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in 12 countries to win grants ranging from US$ 500,000 - US$ 1,000,000.

The Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) is a coalition of donors, governments and CSOs that aims to improve development results by supporting capacity building for enhanced citizen feedback and participation. To achieve this objective, the GPSA provides strategic and sustained support to CSOs’ social accountability initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability.

Applications from Mozambique

A total of 216 CSOs from the 12 participating countries responded to the first Call for Proposals, out of which 20 applications were received from Mozambique. The GPSA Steering Committee (SC) selected Concern Universal Mozambique’s Proposal: “Social Accountability Knowledge, Skills, Action and Networking Saksan” for US$ 700,000 in funding under the GPSA grant program.

Please review the proposal and register and post your comments at Global Partnership for Social Responsibility - First Call for Proposals by July 16, 2013.

The GPSA takes all comments received into consideration before giving the final approval of the project. The period for posting comments will end on July 16, 2013.

General information on the proposal, instructions guiding public comments and a space to leave comments are available at the link above.

 GPSA’s first grants for social accountability projects

In Mozambique, the GPSA sought Social Accountability proposals from CSOs that addressed the following areas:

1.       Monitor and report on the subnational transfers linked to the exploration and exploitation of extractive industries, particularly in the regions of Nampula, Tete and Cabo Delgado, to ensure the efficient allocation of resources;

2.       Monitor and report on the allocation of decentralized resources for – and/or the quality of service provision in the health or education sectors;

3.       Strengthen institutional capacity of CSOs working on Social Accountability.
