Women in Punjab have recorded mixed progress. While there has been improvement in schooling and maternal health, the child sex ratio in the state is the lowest in India, and women have withdrawn from the labor force in large numbers. Read Punjab – Gender brief.

Progress has been uneven across social groups in Punjab. The state’s Scheduled Castes lag others in poverty reduction, schooling and access to basic amenities. Read Punjab - Social Inclusion brief.
