The extension is necessary for the project to be fully and successfully completed. Additional time is needed to complete technical assistance activities of strategic importance to the borrower, related to the new institutional arrangements introduced for the management of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (MRBH), the state capital. The activities seek to support the development of master plans to guide urban and economic development in key areas of the metropolitan region. This initiative could have potential demonstration effects for other metropolitan areas in Brazil. The objective of the Road Transport Project is to stimulate higher economic growth by reducing road transport costs in the borrower's territory. The closing date of... Show More + the project will be extended by 12 months from May 31, 2012 until May 30, 2013. Extension of the closing date will enable the achievement of 100 percent of the project's physical targets. The extended timeframe will also allow completing the key ongoing strategic technical assistance activities, which are in various stages of execution. This third extension will enable to more fully achieve the project's development objective by ensuring a continued support for the institutional strengthening component of the project.
