Dr. Paolo Carlo Belli is a Lead Economist with the Human Development Unit, ECA Region, and Sector Leader for the Human Development Program in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.
Dr. Belli has been at the World Bank since May 2003. In his professional career at the World Bank he has lead several tasks, including the preparation and supervision of several large lending operations in India, Sri Lanka, Moldova and Ukraine.
In addition, he has been responsible for several analytical tasks, in South Asia and in the ECA Regions, in East Africa and in East Timor, East Asia Region. In the past, he worked extensively in research projects with the Health, Nutrition and Population Anchor Unit, and the Research Department of the World Bank.
Before joining the Bank, Dr. Belli was teaching at the Harvard School of Public Health, and before that he was holding a tenured Academic position in Italy.
Dr. Belli has a PhD in Economics and Public Policy from the London School of Economics in London. In his Academic career, Dr. Belli contributed to several research publications and initiatives, mainly in the areas of improving public sector management, health financing, and governance.
