Country Program Coordinator, Africa

Ms. Laura Kullenberg assumed the position of Country Program Coordinator for Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia on August 1, 2017. Prior to her current assignment, she was Country Manager for Malawi and South Sudan.

An American national, she joined the Bank in 1999 as senior evaluation officer in the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG), followed by field assignments as senior operations officer in Mexico, Colombia and Kosovo. Before coming to the Bank, Ms. Kullenberg worked for the United Nations Capital Development Fund (1990-1999), where she was responsible for the Fund’s capital investment programs in Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh, and where she was also director of the Policy and Evaluation Unit. Following the end of the Kosovo conflict in 1999, she joined the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo, the global body coordinating the international system’s post-war reconstruction effort in the country.

At Oxfam America (1983-89) she ran the agency’s emergency relief programs in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan, based in Ethiopia for five years. As part of her undergraduate degree, she also worked as a volunteer teacher in rural Guatemala for one year.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Latin American Studies and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
