Larisa Leshchenko

Country Manager for Azerbaijan, Europe and Central Asia

Ms. Larisa Leshchenko has been serving as the World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan since September 1, 2012. She is based in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Ms. Leshchenko, a Ukrainian national, joined the Bank in August 1996 as an Operations Analyst for the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region. Since then, she has held various positions in the ECA and Africa regions, including Senior Economist in Ukraine, Senior Country Officer in Nigeria and in Southern Africa. Most recently, she was the Country Program Coordinator for the South Caucasus Country Unit.

As the Country Manager for Azerbaijan, Ms. Leshchenko’s top priorities are (i) to lead the Bank's day-to-day dialogue with the government and key stakeholders in Azerbaijan on a broad range of issues including the structural reform agenda and portfolio management; (ii) to lead the implementation of the Country Partnership Strategy in close collaboration with other development partners (EU institutions, bilateral donors, civil society); and (iii) to manage the staff and budget in the Country Office and provide strategic guidance to the Country Team.
