Ganesh Rasagam

Practice Manager, East Asia and Pacific, Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation

Ganesh Rasagam is the practice manager for East Asia and Pacific (2), covering Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Pacific Islands, for the Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation Global Practice at the World Bank Group.

He previously led infoDev, a global program that supports innovation and entrepreneurship in emerging economies. A Malaysian national, he has over 30 years’ experience in finance and private sector development, spanning over 35 countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Prior to joining the World Bank in 2003, Rasagam was the chief executive officer of a consulting firm in Penang, Malaysia, that specialized in the design and implementation of national and sub-national competitiveness strategies focusing on industrial transformation, Special Economic Zones and regional integration.

Rasagam’s prior positions at the World Bank Group include Finance and Private Sector Development country sector coordinator for Kenya, Rwanda, and Eritrea, and acting practice manager for Eastern Africa in the Trade & Competitiveness Global Practice. He was the practice manager for the global Innovation & Entrepreneurship unit before assuming his current position.

He holds degrees in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and transportation planning/economics from the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand.
