Alvaro Manoel is a Senior Economist in the World Bank’s Macroeconomics and Fiscal Management Global Practice, where he advises on a wide range of issues, including debt management, debt sustainability analysis, subnational government public finances, macro vulnerabilities, and fiscal policy, and where he leads work in these areas. He has published on broad range of macroeconomic and fiscal policy issues. Prior to joining the Bank, Alvaro was a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (1999-2009), Senior Economic Adviser to the Minister of Planning and Budget in Brazil (1997-99) and Deputy Secretary of the Brazilian National Treasury (1989-93). He earned his M.A. and Ph.D in Economics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He is a former Associate Researcher at University of California, Berkeley, and a professor of economics at the University of Brasília.
