I'd like to draw the attention of the registrants to two contributions that were recently posted on our web site. The first is a letter to the editor in JAMA: The authors note that, ... results demonstrate that the cost of making triple-drug anti-HIV therapy available to adults in the Americas may be quite substantial. However, wide variation in the relative cost of such intervention can be seen, particularly when it is considered as a percentage of the GNP. Our analysis suggests that the implementation of triple-drug anti-HIV therapy may not be completely outside of the financial resources of many countries in the Americas. The conclusions of this letter appear to contradict some of the results from our other posted studies, but do appear to be backed up by the experiences in Mexico described by the message submitted by Jorge Saavedra. The second contribution is a press release from November of last year, announcing the launch of the "UNAIDS HIV Drug Access Initiative". If there are other references which you believe should be included, please let us know. Thanks. Steven |
