Mr Halpern, I'm not putting down economists, just that it's frustrating for those of us who work with people who have AIDS to discuss only numbers. I agree with you that we have to measure cost-effectiveness vis-a-vis prevention vs ARVs, or whatever else that comes into the equation. I live in a country where this discussion is hardly going on --- prevention is thought of in terms of testing people and as for care, there is so little. And we're not even a poor country, recent economic crisis notwithstanding. Anyway I thank all contributors for the many insights and ideas and hope to get some Malaysian economists also to start thinking about this and come up with some policy suggestions. Marina Mahathir |
