Addressing Gender Issues in Demobilization and Reintegration Programs

Nathalie de Watteville

Abstract

Despite varied roles, female ex-combatants share one unfortunate characteristic: limited access to benefits when peace and demobilization comes. This is true as well for girls abducted for sexual services and the families of ex-combatants in the receiving community. This work focuses on selected gender issues; and its objective is to ensure that female-specific needs are identified and addressed during demobilization and reintegration programs (DRPs).
