Between
February 9 and 11 the Global Research Alliance
and the World Bank, with Support form the Swiss
Development Corporation and the Department
of Science and Technology of the Government of South Africa
held a workshop
that brought together Scientists, Traditional healers
and Decision and Policy makers to discuss how to jointly approach
validation of Indigenous knowledge – with a special focus
on traditional medicine.
The primary goal of the cooperation is to make Indigenous
Knowledge more relevant in achieving the Millennium Development
Goals.
The primary
outcome is an initial road map that
the participants agreed on to move forward the agenda.
The Participants
further agreed on two immediate projects to be undertaken:
- Joint
pilot validation project (currently discussed: a proposal
by TAWG )
- Development
of a Knowledge sharing Platform
At the
same time arrangements for managing the joint partnership
are under preparation. This is an indication that the partnership
is evolving and the documents presented here are to be seen
as “work in progress” – also inviting for comments
from readers.
The GRA Nerve Center in South Africa coordinates the partnership.
