Partners of the Indigenous Knowledge Program

Following the GK 97 Conference and in the context of PICTA  (Partnership for Information and Communication Technologies in Africa), The World Bank agreed to take the lead in this Indigenous Knowledge Initiative.

The following partners participated in the formulation of the initiative: ECA CISDA, IDRC, ITU, SANGONet, UNESCO, UNDP, WHO

Meanwhile, other partners have collaborated in the activities under the IK Program:

CIRAN - Centre for International Research and Advisory Networks at Nuffic (Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education)

WIPO - World Intellectual Property Organization

ILO - INDISCO - Interregional Programme to Support Self-Reliance of Indigenous and Tribal Communities through Cooperatives and other Self-Help Organizations

IFAD - a specialized agency of the United Nations, was established in 1977 as an international financial institution as one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference.

GM - Global Mechanism of the Convention to Combat Destertification

SDC - Swiss Development Cooperation

FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization

GTZ - German Development Cooperation

UNCED - United Nations Conference on Environment and Development

CIDA - Canadian International Development Agency

The World Bank and its partners in development are well positioned to leverage the subject in international fora, stimulate networking of IK centers, provide IK pointers from within its knowledge base and facilitate the exchange of indigenous/traditional knowledge.
