up successful IK practices that could help achieve the MDGs; |

2. Enhancing
the capacity of local communities to develop, share and apply
their indigenous knowledge systems by, among other things |

- developing
national IK strategies and incorporating them into country
poverty reduction programs;
- brokering
of South-South knowledge and learning exchanges;
- facilitating
community-to-community exchanges;
- building
professional associations of indigenous practitioners, and
- supporting
communities to develop businesses related to IK.

3. Developing
innovative tools for the validation
and protection of IK; |

4. Designing
a results framework for monitoring IK and measuring its impact;

| |

5. Establishing
an innovation fund to promote successful IK practices; and |
| |
|
6. Organizing
a Global IK Conference to galvanize support of the development
partners for the above agenda |
