On
November 1, 2000 Mr. James Wolfensohn presented a Special Presidential
Award to Mr. Bruce Benton, Manager, Onchocersiasis Coordination
Unit in the Human Development Department of the Africa Region.
The award recognized Mr. Benton for
1. Commitment to
the elimination of Riverblindness in Africa, demonstrated
by 15 years of uninterrupted service in the Onchocerciasis
Unit
2. The exemplary
partner relations that have been the cornerstone of the success
of the program
Mr. Benton's
work on the Onchocerciasis Control Program (OCP) and the more
recently established African Programme for Onchocerciasis
Control (APOC) exemplifies what successful collaborations
between the Bank and its partners can achieve. Through dogged
determination and commitment to the shared vision of eliminating
river blindness in Africa he has been instrumental in providing
the continuity and passion that made this collaboration so
successful.
