User Trends

Following are observations about the use and value of our service and what these trends may indicate about our program.

Our Target Audience - Although this is the Africa Region's Debriefing Program, statistics show that about 40% of our users are from other parts of the Bank. This is a useful indicator that the service brings value Bank - wide and has good potential for replicability and mainstreaming. Other regions and departments have already shown interest in this area, as have partners and clients.

Tool Adoption - In the first year of operation of this innovative service more than 50% of Africa Region Staff had used it at last once. This is a significant indicator about Bank staff behavior towards innovations and new tools as well as a proxy of the value of the service.

Use of Content - Finally data also suggests that users of the Debriefing material are spending increasingly more time accessing knowledge objects.

For example we monitor the number of Successful Requests or hits that access our site.  From FY02 to FY04 there has been a more than two and half times increase in the number of hits to our site.

Further we also monitor the number of Distinct Hosts Served (DHS) on our site, i.e. individual users who have accessed our site and resources (at least once a year). Again from FY02 to FY04 there has been an over 80% increase in the number of unique users accessing our website.

Debriefee and Users Feedback

Debriefee's Feedback

Mohammed Ould Lemrabott – Director of Studies for the Poverty Alleviation Commission (Mauritania)
“…I really welcomed the opportunity to talk to the whole Bank…if you put (people) in good non pressure type situation, like you did with me then they will open themselves up…”

Govindan Nair - Lead Financial Economist
“…There is tremendous value in systemizing this because it can be used in other situations.  This type of debriefing is therefore very valuable – just for provoking  and helping capture and codify some of this knowledge…”

Dr.Joseph Abbey – Executive Director CEPA(Ghana)
“…I would not have participated if I didn’t think that it was useful…it’s a whole (new) dimension that we can capture audio and video…I’ve enjoyed myself, so I’ve been paid already.”

Martin Aristide Okouda - Minister of Economy (Cameroon)

Noel Oettle – Bank Partner in South Africa
“I thought it was very valuable that you were able to come here and speak to the actors…I think it also helped to raise the profile of the project…”

User's Feedback

Bruno Laporte – Knowledge Coordinator, WBI
“This is really first rate.  I think that the most effective debriefings are those that have been broken down in short tights statements…”

Tracy Hart - Senior Economist, Water and Urban, Africa Region
“I also wanted to specifically note that I found the annexes -- the individual debriefings with TTLs -- very helpful…This piece was the single most piece of information to guide me as advice to glean…”

Richard G. Scobey - Operations Advisor, OPCPS
“…It’s the first time that I’ve seen an effective capture of “tacit” knowledge that can be disseminated “just in time” and “just enough”  to relevant staff and teams …”
