Partnerships

The Debriefing Program has partnered with several units Bank-wide, as well as with clients and external partners. New partnerships have identified several applications of the debriefing methodology to help client and partner institutions enhance their capacity to capture and share tacit knowledge. The following is a summary of these partnerships and applications.

Bank Applications

East Asia and Pacific Region (EAP)
In 2002 the Africa Region Debriefing Program helped the EAP Region set up their own Debriefing service to better target the needs of their staff. This successful partnership facilitated a number of debriefings which can be accessed from their internal EAP Debriefing website. This type of exchange has also been used in their more recent service, called "Reflections", which focuses primarily on interviewing Task Managers.

East Asia Learning Tour
A multi-sectoral team of about 30 Africa Region staff completed a learning tour of five East Asian countries in order to better understand Asian development success factors. The main objective of this kind of learning across regions is to enable staff to provide better quality service to clients by helping expand staff's knowledge of successful development practices. The learning tour used debriefing techniques to capture staff learning (e.g. what best practices are relevant to Africa; what adaptation will be required to make these practices realistic in the African context, etc.) for wider dissemination in the Africa Region and beyond.  Bank staff may visit the East Asia Learning Tour Website for more information. External viewers may request more information by contacting afrdebriefing@worldbank.org .

South Asia Learning Tour
A team of Bank staff and East African country practitioners participated in a study tour of Sri Lanka and India to learn how projects in South Asia have worked with communities and integrated indigenous knowledge into development programs. The study tour focused on developing cross regional partnerships through knowledge sharing and learning exchanges which were facilitated by the debriefing program. Bank staff may visit the South Asia Learning Tour Website for more information. External viewers may request more information by contacting afrdebriefing@worldbank.org .

Other Collaborations
Debriefing content has also been used to create derivative training products and thematic packages. If you would like additional information on these partnerships please contact us at afrdebriefing@worldbank.org .

Partner Applications
CSIR in South Africa
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa is the largest research, development and implementation organization in Africa and currently undertakes approximately 10 per cent of all research and development work on the continent. The Debriefing Program collaborated with CSIR's learning group (CILLA) to help them begin their own debriefing service in January 2003. The program provided methodology, technology and on-site training by conducting and completing their first three debriefings in Johannesburg (which will be available from our site shortly). Program has completed several debriefings since then and continues to grow. The Africa Region Debriefing Program supports CSIR's endeavors and looks forward to future collaboration on learning exchanges.
Client Applications
PRSP Commission in Mauritania
Mohamed El Hebya Ould Lemrabott is Director of Studies in the Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation and Social Integration Commission for the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. As a key player in the preparation and implementation process of the PRSP he was one of the Debriefing Program's first client debriefee. This led to subsequent debriefings of Mr.Lemrabott who eventually adopted the debriefing methodology for Mauritania's PRSP. The debriefing team trained a team of Mauritanian practitioners on the technological aspects of debriefing as well as initial setup support. Their first prototype (available in French, English and Arabic) is available to Bank staff from our internal site (please click here). To request a cd-rom of this please send an email to afrdebriefing@worldbank.org .
