Research Organizations
Differences in Web presence illustrate graphically the current disparities in funding. Few African national research organizations have home pages in the web. In contrast, many of the externally funded projects carried out in collaboration with these organizations have fancy web pages, often on the web sites of the universities or consulting companies contracted by the donors.
A good listing of the Web presence of organizations working on or related to African agricultural research is IPM or Related Technical/Professional Organizations and their Websites in Africa. It is part of "Database of IPM Resources (DIR)" which is maintained by The Integrated Plant Protection Center of Oregon State University (and others).
International Agricultural Research Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) can be found through CGIAR home page.
Four of the CG Centers have their headquarters in Africa:
- International Institutes of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
- West Africa Rice Development Association (WARDA).
- International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and
- International Center for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF).

- ORSTOM (L'Institut français de recherche
scientifique pour le développement en coopération)
- Michigan State University, especially Food Security II Project of the Department of Agricultural Economics
- ISRIC (International Soil Reference and Information Centre, Wageningen) - World Data Centre for Soils
- Overseas Development Institute, especially Rural Policy and Environment Group
- University of Missouri, International Agricultural Programs, especially under the Kenya National Agricultural Research Project (NARP)

- USAID, The U.S. Agencey for International Development, especially the Africa Productive Sector Growth and Environment Group. USAID Famine Early Warning System provides update on food production and supply in many African countries.
